I can make Impression Videos
I make Impression Videos for creative start-ups and social enterprises. I meet and get to know the people behind ideas, and help them reach wider audiences. I love it because it’s varied. I’ve toured schools, mobile medical labs and an avocado farm.
I can make Travel Videos
Something I want to do more of and curate a bit more, but I go to a lot of places- and I press record while I’m there.
I can (more or less) make Short Films
I was a film student once, and so got involved with as many as I could. Here’s the one I directed/produced. The film adaptation of Tom Crowley’s Shed
Here’s a few of the things I’ve produced:
And a few things I’ve acted in:
A bit of history:
Previously, I worked for Europarx on their Europreneurs 2013 programme in Seville, Spain. My primary role was to create Impression videos for a group of interns hoping to develop business ideas.
I’m still building up a portfolio in film-making and it make it my aim to understand the process better by gaining experience in all the areas required to make a film; from concept to completion and promotion. I’ve graduated (with merit) from The University of York with a Masters degree in Digital Film and Television Production and have worked for Secuencia Multimedia and TheVirtualSchool as a film-maker and digital media designer. I directed and produced my first film, Shed in 2012(@shedfilm). My second film will be Gary and the Dark Green Squirrel, when I get round to finishing it.
Featured Work
Shed
Handsome Cab Productions, 2012 (Director/Producer)
People change even if places won’t. Shed is a 24-minute adaptation of an original play by Tom Crowley. It explores themes of nostalgia, suspense and grief. Shed was shot to a 10-day production schedule on a custom-built set at the University of York. Shot on a Sony F3 camera, edited in Final Cut Pro, sound edited in Pro Tools and graded in Apple Color.
This is my first film. I wrote the adaptation, developed the concept, cast the actors, provided/funded the materials, recruited the crew, ran rehearsals, blocked the action, ran the set, uploaded the footage, assisted the visual and sound edit and it’s ready to view (here!).
A lot of people went in to creating Shed and special mentions go to the following people: Josh Giles (DoP, Lighting Design, Shed’s Lead Carpenter, Exec Producer), Thorben Bocklemann (DoP, Lighting Design), Odinn Hilmarsson (Actor- Ben, Composor, Exec Producer), Brian Gilligan (Lead Sound Recordist, Sound Editor), Magda Tsakali (Editor, Crew), Tom Crowley (Original Writer, Poster Designer), Evelien Kortum (Exec Producer, Crew), Alex Balmer (VFX, Postproduction Assistant), Dan Wood (Actor- Nev(pictured)), Lily Cooper- Sally (pictured)), Mariel Stringer-Fehlow (Actor-Very) & Pete Watts (Actor-Gunman).
We filmed loads of bonus stuff too once the film itself wrapped, including some acoustic sessions:
A less-than-serious guided tour of the set:
And here are some outtakes, for fun
The Probability of Love
TheVirtualSchool, 2012 (Director/Producer/Actor)
The Practical Applications of Probability when Courting. A quirky engagement video intended to drive views to the VirtualSchool’s web-education platform and act as an introduction to the probability chapter. The concept, shooting and editing of this short was all organised by myself, Emilie Sheehan (also in the film) and Sarah Bailey. Original music was composed and recorded by Odinn Hilmarsson and additional camera was supplied by Kimberley Faria.
Enjoy Your Stay
Secuencia Multimedia/Casa de Carmona, 2012 (Writer, Director, Actor)
Some people don’t know how to stay in a hotel. If you enter a hotel looking for faults, you are guaranteed to not enjoy yourself. This mentality is where Enjoy Your Stay comes from. Writing and creating this film was my core project at Secuencia Multimedia (Part of the Cubica MLab) in Seville, Spain. This is a different spin on promotional videos for the Casa de Carmona’s website and the owner was very pleased with the results, especially as I’d directed the shooting of this film in Spanish!
Created with Secuencia Multimedia with thanks to Maika (Editor, Crew), Jaime (Cinematographer), Valentin (Producer), Cat Bennett (Actor- Rachel) & Felipe (Producer, Actor- himself).
